About Us

Handyman Centre is a family-run business, shaped over three generations and rooted in a simple belief: doing things properly, and treating people well.

The business began in the 1940s, when a small ironmongery was opened by my grandfather, Richard Busuttil. After his original shop in Pietà was destroyed during World War II, he started again in the same street where Handyman Centre still operates today. Those early years set the tone for everything that followed — resilience, hard work, and a close relationship with customers.

Second Generation

The business was later passed on to my father, Frank, who steadily expanded it into a well-stocked and trusted hardware store. I grew up in and around the shop, learning the trade informally and gradually, simply by being there and helping out where I could.

Transition to Today

When I eventually took over, the focus of the business began to shift. I’ve always been drawn to woodworking and to the idea that a simple piece of raw wood can be shaped into something useful and lasting. Over time, this interest influenced the direction of the business, leading us away from traditional ironmongery and towards power tools and machinery, particularly for woodworking.

That transition happened gradually, always guided by the same principles the business started with — quality, reliability, and honest advice. Today, Handyman Centre supplies a wide range of power tools and machinery, available both in-store and through our website.

We were early adopters of e-commerce, launching our first online store in 2004, and we continue to develop our website to make it more practical and user-friendly, while keeping the personal service customers expect from a small, independent business.

While the products we offer have changed over the years, the way we do business has remained much the same. We aim to be helpful, approachable, and dependable — whether you’re a professional tradesperson or someone working on a project at home.
